Cultivation Profile
Growth Characteristics:
Moderate colonizer; produces thick stems and large, flat caps when matured fully. Prefers nutrient-dense substrates and darker environments.
Ideal Conditions
Colonization: 65–75°F (18–24°C), low-light or dark incubation
Substrates: Composted manure, straw + manure blends, or enriched compost blocks
Fruiting: 60–70°F with 80–90% humidity
Casing Layer: Portobello performs best with a light casing layer (peat/vermiculite or similar)
Flushes: Typically 1–2 heavy flushes depending on substrate nutrition
Harvest Timing
