Originally developed in the 1990s by the underground mycologist known as "The Keeper", this lab-created strain (also known as “Z Cube”) quickly gained notoriety for its vigorous growth and large fruit bodies.

Z-Strain produces medium to large mushrooms with long, robust stems and golden-brown, often slightly wavy caps. Known for forming dense flushes and aggressive rhizomorphic mycelium, it thrives in nutrient-rich conditions and colonizes grain substrates like 5-grain blends or rye grain with bovine dung-based bulk layers.

Although Z-Strain can produce impressively large mushrooms—some reportedly growing as long as a forearm—it typically delivers its best flush in the first round.
