Psilocybe Caerulescens Isolated Spore Syringe – 10cc | Spore Genetics

Also known as “Landslide Mushroom,” “Derrumbe,” or “Blue Caerulescens

The Psilocybe Caerulescens Isolated Spore Syringe highlights one of the most historically significant and visually striking psilocybin mushrooms in the world. Known for its metallic-blue bruising and golden-to-silver caps, this species carries deep cultural roots stretching from the Mazatec shamans of Oaxaca to the ancient Aztec civilization, where it was revered as a sacred entheogen.

Originally documented in 1923 near Montgomery, Alabama, this species has since been found throughout the southeastern United States and parts of Mexico, where it thrives in clay-rich soils and post-landslide terrain — earning it the nickname “Landslide Mushroom.”

Each syringe contains 10cc of Isolated Psilocybe caerulescens spores, prepared in our ISO-7 cleanroom for clarity, sterility, and reliable microscopy research.

Psilocybe Caerulescens Morphological Features

Cap (Pileus): 1–10 cm across; convex to bell-shaped, sometimes slightly depressed in the center. When moist, it appears yellowish- to reddish-brown with a silvery-blue sheen, drying to beige or tan. The cap surface is gelatinous and hygrophanous, changing color as it loses moisture and bruising deep blue to greenish-olive when handled.

Gills (Lamellae): Attached (adnate to sinuate) and densely spaced. They begin pale yellow and mature to dark violet-brown, retaining whitish edges that contrast sharply under magnification.

Stem (Stipe): 2–13 cm tall, 5–12 mm thick, hollow, and often twisted. Color ranges from whitish to reddish-brown, bruising blue upon contact. Occasionally, white rhizomorphic strands (root-like mycelium) form near the base.

Spores: Hexagonal to subrhomboid, 6.7–8 × 4.8–6.4 µm, dark violaceous-brown, and easily observed under light microscopy.

Psilocybe Caerulescens Habitat & Distribution

In the wild, Psilocybe caerulescens grows gregariously or in dense clusters (caespitose) from June through October. It prefers disturbed soils, erosion zones, and clay banks rich in woody debris — especially areas affected by landslides, riverbanks, and cleared trails.

The species is naturally distributed from northern Georgia and Alabama to southern Mexico, with notable populations in Oaxaca, where it remains part of Mazatec ceremonial traditions.

Research Significance

Closely related to Psilocybe mexicana and Psilocybe aztecorum, Psilocybe caerulescens provides researchers with an opportunity to study evolutionary divergence within entheogenic fungi. Its unique spore morphology, complex pigment reactions, and blueing chemistry make it a valuable specimen for advanced microscopy and taxonomy research.
