The Rise of Interest in Psilocybin Mushrooms

Let’s take it back 50 years ago. Unless you had a hippie friend or someone in your life who had serious interest in growing mushrooms, you never really heard of anyone openly growing or talking about the beneficial & medicinal use of psilocybin mushrooms. Being in the height of the war on drugs, it was frowned upon not only by the government but it bled into the public’s beliefs as well.

Such a taboo concept; but as humans we have what’s called “free will” and some of us aren’t afraid to use it. Free speech, peaceful yet solid arguments with local/state officials, mixed with our right to vote for better lives.

Fast forward 50 years, and we have almost two dozen areas across the US who have decriminalized or deprioritized the possession/use and cultivation of magic mushrooms. More importantly, we have two states with lifted laws: Oregon has a regulated therapeutic program with licensed service centers fully operational and Colorado has decriminalized personal use/possession/cultivation and rolled out licensed healing centers (we need to see more of Colorado’s style of being able to grow your own).

These are definitely steps in the right direction, and if you believe that with collective energy we can make changes - I’d say I truly believe in that too. Doesn’t matter who’s president or which government official we’re talking about, WE are the ones who help keep this country going and that energy remains relevant and alive.

Why Do People Have More Interest In Psilocybin Mushrooms Today?

This almost feels like a trick question, because there have always been people with genuine love and interest for magic mushrooms forever. As more counties & states push for decriminalization of magic mushrooms, there are significant studies and testimonials on how psilosin has helped out a person. That’s where the “taboo” part is finally starting to phase itself out. People are becoming more comfortable with the idea due to its potential benefits and helps provoke conversation about it.

These aren’t guaranteed results, but what they are finding is the potential to help quit addictions such as alcohol, pharmaceuticals, illicit drugs, or any bad habits in general. Psilocybin mushrooms can also help treat mental illnesses such as PTSD, depression, OCD, anxiety, and many more. It is helping people connect more with their inner child and freeing one's mind from the shackles we unfortunately bare at times. There’s many benefits to be explored, and the best piece of advice I can give you guys is to keep talking about medicinal mushrooms with your loved ones and even strangers.

Keep an open mind, not everyone enjoys the talks of taboo things! But at least the idea was put out there into the universe. You simply never know when you might just change someone’s outlook on something just by bringing conversation to it. If someone looks at you funny, that’s fine! Be part of going against the grain and talk about it.

I do have to mention we don’t condone the use or cultivation of psilocybe cubensis mushrooms and we recommend checking local/state laws.

Psilocybin Mushrooms Moving Forward

What Can We Expect Moving Forward?

There are actually two states that are going to try and push for decriminalization this year for 2026.

States bringing decriminalization to the ballots are -

Massachusetts: They are bringing two initiatives to play. Legalizing ALL psychedelics and another for regulated access, similar to how cannabis dispensaries operate.

California: They totally dropped the ball in 2025 because it was vetoed, but they are looking to push for it again this November. They want to at least start off with medically induced sessions being legalized statewide. Hopefully it quickly follows through with full decriminalization for possession and cultivation.

Yes, these are definitely moves in the right direction. At the end of the day, we all deserve to know the truth about psychedelics, despite the laws and regulations. Are you ready to explore the truth for yourself or maybe you’ve found that truth already?

We live in a free country and again while we don’t condone the cultivation or use of psilocybin mushrooms (check local/state laws) we believe what you do behind closed doors should not matter. We don’t deserve truths to be hidden behind the curtains. It’s showtime guys.

Happy Growing!
